Review of The Unbraiding of Anna Brown by Lee Savino

I really enjoyed this sweet story about a hardened, widowed rancher and the woman who brings him back to life. Anna is innocent and plain spoken, and pours love into a broken family. Carter is tough and stoic, but is a true gentleman. The punishment and courting scenes were well crafted, and I found myself falling into the story as I watched the characters walk the path that leads to love.

This book was an easy, quick, and fast paced book that I loved. It started out sad with Carter, one of the main character, having lost his wife, leaving him to raise his young son by himself and keep their ranch running. That is when Anna, the other main character, comes knocking on Carter\’s door looking for a job. It is wonderful how Anna pulls Carter out of his depression and thinking about his son and also about her along the way. I very much enjoyed reading this book and I hope the author has more on the way because I am definitely interested in reading more of her stories.

This short and fast-paced book is very well-written. You cannot help but get sucked into the budding romance between Carter and Anna. Everything about the story is very believable. I especially appreciated how Carter, despite his hardened exterior, always treats Anna with respect and compassion…even when punishing her. It is easy to see how Anna would fall in love with him.

  7. Redrabbitt

I loved this sweet story that starts out with grief and trying just to deal with the deal of his wife. Carter only exists, mostly because of his son, Paddy. Seventeen-year-old Anne Brown, the neighbor’s daughter, come bringing eggs and offers to work taking care of the house, cooking and Paddy so Carter can return to his ranch work. Anne is a bit naive, outspoken and comes from a house where they talk and share and is so determined to pull Carter out of his stupor of grief, even to the point of intentionally doing things to draw his ire. The plot of this story kept me captivated and the pages turning, it takes place over several months time. The dialog is entertaining and at times you just want to knock the two heads together when they are vague in what they say and hurt the others feelings. The story has some very tense moments and also emotional issues. The spankings are reasonable, but at times confusing to Anne. Best of all, the story has a sweet happily ever after ending.

This was a real page turner. Anna tried being sweet to Carter but he stayed withdrawn. One day Anna lost it and told him off which brought him out of his depression. With love and spanking things turned around and Carter realized how much he loved Anna.lovely story.

I really enjoyed this love story. It is well written with an interesting plot. Anna is such a great character and she and Carter have good chemistry. I loved the slow burn as Anna slowly broke through Carter’s defenses. Anna was just what this broken family needed and her scenes with Carter’s son Paddy were so sweet. Good discipline scenes administered with love. Anna and Carter don’t always see eye to eye but eventually they do get their happy ending. I recommend this book.

I really enjoyed this western romance. Anna comes to reinstate Carter\’s ability to feel anything other than numb after his wife dies. Without actually trying, she makes Carter fall in love with her innocent ways and quit demeanor. Anna does manage to get into some scrapes but Carter is there to correct her.

  19. BlueDiamond

Anna is a perfect ray of sunshine that chases away the dark depression Carter carries in his heart over the death of his late wife. He can’t seem to shake the misery until Anna’s playful nature brightens his life and home. Her devotion to him and his young son gives him reason to love again, but she is young and has some growing up to do. They both have lessons to learn in love and communication.
I love the title. The author does a nice job weaving it into the story line.

I loved how the author Amelia helped create full characters by bringing into the story-line scenes from the past that helped to shape the depth and history behind the characters interactions. It really gave depth and perspective. In addition to some drama there was also a nice tense action scene as well that helped stir the pot.

I have to admit the title of the story was very confusing and I kept trying to figure it out but it all made sense at the end of the story. I loved the moment when it all made sense. Very clever!!

Anna goes to work for Carter after the death of his wife and Anna slowly helps Carter to overcome his grief. The book covers a fairly long period of time as Carter learns to deal with his grief, then slowly begins to fall in love with Anna. I felt so sad for Carter who is initially struggling to function and trying to hold things together for his son who is very confused about where his mother is.

Anna is determined to bring back the Carter she remembers; Anna could be quite amusing and sometimes reckless.

This was a really sweet story and I really enjoyed it.

I received this as an ARC for an honest review.

  29. Pico1

This is a well-written novella with two likable main characters and a good story of meeting, learning about one another, and ultimately falling in love. Both Anna and Carter are believable characters, and the story develops in a pleasant way – with some problems along the way – and with a believable resolution to the problems in the end. I look forward to other books by the same author.

This is the love story of Anna and Carter. Anna is an innocent young woman and Carter the widower left with a young son. The relationship has its share of ups, downs and of course, spankings. The story line and the characters are well developed and written. An enjoyable read.

  33. Goodbedtime reading

This is a nice romance set in the old west of a young girl falling in love with an older man. Anna no longer feels she needs to finish school and wants to help her farmer/cowboy neighbour (recently made a widower) with his young son and his housekeeping. Carter slowly realises his feelings for the innocent girl are changing from employer to someone who whats more from their relationship. He wants to love and protect her which includes a D/s exchange. But it doesn\’t all go smoothly. Emotions run high when Anna thinks Carter has sent her away. But everything ends happily including the one thing Carter has wanted to do with Anna\’s hair-to unbraid her plaits and see the lustre in seeing the hair fall loose down Anna\’s back. A good read.
