The Civil War had been hard on everyone, but Celia Weston felt as if she personally had taken the brunt of it. Left alone on what had once been her family’s beautiful estate, she had to scrimp and scrape just to survive, reduced to living like an animal while she tried to take care of her beloved mother, whose mind had been crippled by her great losses.

Trey Oaks had been occupied by all sorts during those long years, but the worst was its last occupier ? Aaron Denehy, who thought that possession was a lot more than nine tenths of the law, and that Celia’s body and soul came with the land he claimed as his own. Celia found herself subjugated by Aaron, treated no better than a lady of easy virtue, barely better than the slaves the war had freed.

He spanked, belted or paddled her at the least sign of resistance, but brought her to the heights of ecstasy that she hadn’t known existed before his touch.

And there was nowhere for Celia to escape to. It was her home, but he was the Master.

This story was basically non-consensual story with moderate/sever discipline. The characters and their motives were well written. It would have been nice to see how their marriage developed; does Celia ever make peace with Aaron? Overall a great story about what happens to two people from opposite sides of the war when fate (and Aaron’s determination) throws them together.

I enjoyed this story and the relationship between Celia and Aaron. I, also, would have enjoyed some more information as to how their marriage developed.

In typical Carolyn Faulkner fashion this is one good historical romance with harsh discipline all the way thru it. Spoils of war is definitly not your typical romance but does have a HEA in the end.

The writer had the amazing ability of transporting the back in time. Perfect balance between plot and spanking.

This is a great historical novel based in the Civil War era with a great alpha male who takes charge right from the beginning and never stops. The heroine is strong and independent and doesn\\\’t appreciate having her freesom curtailed even though it does mean safety in a way.

Celia survived so many years of the war just to be taken when the war ended. Aaron claimed both Celia\\\’s property and body. Forcing her to into sexual encounters and spanking her when she refuses to obey. Carolyn Faulkner always manages to take it to the very edge. Great character chemistry, great story!!

I very much enjoyed this book. It\\\’s too bad that neither the author nor editor nor anyone else did any proofreading. Also, the basic grammar is poor throughout. I repeat, however: Despite such errors, I very much enjoyed this book.

This was a good historical romance. A little severe in parts but still very well written.

This was one of the first books I read by CF and I was not disappointed then and I still enjoy this historical book based during the Civil War. Very good characters and definitly has non consent and very harsh punishments but in the end everything works out great.

Celia has kept her mother and herself safe during the War. Just as the war ends, Aaron comes to the plantation and takes it and Celia for his own. This is a nonconsensual story with lots of discipline and sex in it. The only problem in the editing – which is terrible. That being said, this is still CF at her best.

At first I did not like this story but changed my mind as I read. It turned out to be one that I continue to remember and would re-read if I had the time.

I love Carolyn Faulkner books and this was an excellent read. Celia and Aaron were on opposite sides of the Civil War with romance love and somewhat harsh spankings.

I love Carolyn\\\’s books, but as this started, it was not one of my favorites. Aaron, is a Yankee soldier and finds Celia\\\’s home in the South, likes it, and decides to take her and the property over. The story eventually redeems itself when Aaron starts to fall in love with her. I ended up liking the book and I will read it again.

I love the set up for this story- Aaron is a Yankee soldier who finds Celia\\\’s home and claims it as his own. He fixes it up and in the process begins to care for her and her mother. His attentions are forced, she wants little to do with him, and he is more than willing to force her to see things his way with plenty of discipline. As harsh as he was at times, I also found Aaron to be sweet and caring, exactly the type of hero I like to see in a story, and I loved the ending.

  33. Redrabbitt

This is one of those stories that will take you out of your comfort zone, the Civil War, death, destruction, the South ransacked and yes, defenseless women raped. Celia Weston and her mother Nora are left behind while her father and brothers leave to fight for Southern Rights, and they have been away for four long years, hard years, where Nora is more like the child and Celia the adult. Celia only goes out late at night foraging for food. Captured one night by a large Yankee, spanked and raped by her captor, Aaron Denehy of Maine Not only does he take possession of Trey Rivers, he takes her against her will and continued to do so daily. Aaron is kind to the Negros, hires and pays them wages and offers them land, but to Celia he is sadistically cruel in punishments, but sexually always sees she has pleasure. “She hadn’t leapt from grace, she’d been pushed, and she was not going to become the kind of woman who did things like that for pay.” The plot kept me captivated with a storyline that is harsh and told in a realistic setting with emotional dialog and situations, in spite of all that happens, ends with some redemption.

I loved Celia from page one. She is strong having survived the war while looking after her I\’ll mother and still a chaste woman. Aaron is strong strict and determined. He did not give her any choices from the beginning and over spanked her objections. This book is very well written with human and vivid characters. I highly recommend it.

  37. Trish

This is a rather dark look into the post Civil War south. Celia is torn between what is necessary to survive and what she has been raised to believe. Aaron sees in the dilapidated property a chance to build his own future. Initially Celia is just part of the deal and a chance to provide a little payback but her determination and commitment wins him over. Aaron has dark tastes that Celia discovers she craves. So join them on their journey and read the Spoils of War. You will not regret it.
