Annabel Henderson’s life has fallen apart yet again, worse this time than before. She lost her beloved younger brother, then her mother a year ago, and now her father. His dying words talk of his regrets; warn her of someone or something that he was unable to fully explain. Confused, grieving, she is left alone in the Scottish Highlands to deal with her father’s body and wondering how she can continue on with her family’s tinker trade traveling from village to village. She must do it, for it is the only life she knows. In her heart, though, she yearns for a man to love her and to help her with the trade. Instead her first encounter is with the famed Great Scottish Devil returning to his home of Urquhart. The Devil is more annoying and demanding than he is handsome. How dare he think to take charge of her life!

Brodie Durward isn’t sure he can deal with another problem in his life. He’d barely survived being taken prisoner and seriously wounded in the final battle of the Crusades, left with the loss of his memories. Still struggling with that, he had to go to England and save his sister Maggie from being hung. All he wants now is to return to his family’s holding of the Castle Urquhart. He hopes the once familiar surroundings and being around his clan will help him completely heal and regain his memories. Then he and his men run across a young lad apparently trying to steal the valuables off a dead man. Such a travesty can’t be tolerated!
But the “lad” isn’t a boy at all. The supposed bandit is a tiny sprite of a woman, far too pleasing to the eye for his comfort, and furious at having been called a thief. And then she tries to refuse to travel with him under his protection, claiming she doesn’t need it, doesn’t wish to go in that direction. He has no patience for her foolishness. She will go with him!
This is a companion novel to Starla Kaye’s Maggie Mine, but it can also stand alone!

I really enjoyed this story, though not quite as much as it’s companion novel, Maggie Mine.
This interesting plot has the two main characters each fighting their own nightmares; Annabel who just buried her father, her last living relative and Brodie who has amnesia and can\\\’t remember any of his relatives.
Against Annabel’s wishes, Brodie assigns himself her as guardian and brings her home to Urquhart with him. As they both struggle with their own issues they quickly become very close and fall in love. It is a forbidden love as Brodie is betrothed to another, by order of the King. Despite their good intentions, they have little success keeping their love at bay. The fact that Annabel can’t seem to stay out of trouble doesn’t help. Brodie’s answer to her mischief and rule breaking is, of course a spanking, which he always does on the bare. Seeing her bare behind makes his thoughts run in directions contrary to his promises.
Amidst all of this, there is still the mystery of Annabel’s birth, who wants to kill her and why. In addition, the arrival of Lady Stonewall, Brodie’s betrothed adds a little spice to the mixture, as she would love to see Annabel gone from the castle ASAP.
There are many questions that need answers in this story, and though a little wordy at times I enjoyed it, nonetheless.

In this sequel to Maggie Mine, Brodie is still trying to remember. He and his men come across Annabel right after her father has died. They take of his burial and Brodie insists Annabel puts herself under his protection. This was a great story. Another good historical with great characters from Starla Kaye. Rating 5

I loved historical stories based in Scotland. This book lived up to its promise. I loved the romance between Brodie and Annabel. I really enjoy epilogues and I was a little disappointed this book didn’t have one.

I love a good historical spanking romance and this did not disappoint. In my opinion, this book is flawlessly crafted. The plot is great, the pacing is perfect and the characters are enjoyable. There are plenty of hot scenes and many spankings.
My only complaint, if I had one (and I really don\\\’t) is that the spankings are a bit tame. I don\\\’t mean that I wanted them to be harsher, but perhaps a bit more lush in the descriptions. Nonetheless, I recommend this book to any spanko.

Perfect balance of spanking intertwined with the feisty comments of Anna and the strong and brooding Brodie. You can\\\’t help but push for their union despite all odds. You actually find yourself wishing away his betrothed. One of my favorite scenes was the two of them getting spanked in the same room. It really upped the tension between the two women. Was a fantastic read, will pick up it\\\’s companion. Really loved it.

This was a cute enough story, with good characters, good plotting, and a nice element of mystery (although scraps of paper with incomplete names is a bit manufactured). However, I can\\\’t give it a good rating, because the lack of editing made it actually difficult to read. Not only were there grammatical errors, but the heroine\\\’s name actually changes for a section from Annabel to Gloriana, then back again. But what was worst for me (pet peeve alert) was the misuse of the word \\\’naught\\\’. The author repeatedly (I gave up counting at around 30…) used this word to mean \\\’not\\\’, which is NOT what it means. The one time it was used correctly, to mean \\\’nothing\\\’, was apparently by accident. The errors became so irritating that they took away most of my enjoyment of the book.

Great sequel to Maggie Mine which takes place in the highlands with a great Scottish Lord who still has none of his memories. He knows just how to deal with a young woman he comes across who doesn\\\’t seem any sense what so ever. This wonderful story has a little bit of everything that just about anyone can enjoy.

It\\\’s always a risk to read a second book in a series, but Starla Kaye made this one just as good, if not better, than Maggie Mine. I just loved this story and could NOT put it down! Brodie was so great, you could not help but fall in love with him. He was every bit the alpha male in every sense of the word. He did what was right, no matter what, much to his new ward\\\’s, Anna\\\’s, chagrin. Their yearning and love and need was so real. I really hope that another story is done in this series, maybe for his first as he too had alpha male characteristics that might be nice to see played out. Definitely worth the read, and full length novel as well, which I really enjoyed!

I did not realize at first that this was a second book in a series, but I really found that this book worked as a stand alone as well. There were times I wanted to choke Brodie for being so nobel, but it also added to the man he was. This book was well written, and you really get into the story.

Absolutely spectacular read. I haven\\\’t read the first book, but you really didn\\\’t need to for this book to be enjoyable, or to make sense. I loved the element of Brodie trying to get his memory back and how that plays into the mystery surrounding Anna. The discipline is well done and the absolute perfect level of loving and firm. I will definitely be reading the first in the series and any other books I can find by Starla.

This is the sequel to Maggie Mine. Brodie is still trying to regain his memory. He runs into Annabelle, who\\\’s father just died. This story has an interesting plot with romance, mystery and plenty of sparks and excitement between characters. I enjoyed this story, although not as much as the prequel, Maggie Mine. It was still a very well written story with great characters.
