I enjoyed this romantic suspense story that takes place at the end of the Civil War in Savannah, Georgia. The story has mystery and suspense, as Agent Reid Lawrence has been dispatched by the Federal Government in search of missing Confederate gold that is rumored to be hidden on the Oglethorne farm. Josephine Oglethorne is all alone in the world, and all she has left is the deed to the family farm. She is no shrinking violet, she does what needs to be done, can shoot and protect herself. She lost her brothers during battles, her two sisters, and mother to Scarlet Fever and her father to a broken heart. The plot twist kept me in suspense with the resourceful Jo as she saves Reid’s life from a lynching mob and then it becomes a battle for bother their lives. Will the missing gold be found or is it just a mystery? Enough people believe it is there and are willing to kill to get it.

Jo is alone after the war, her family is dead and her fiance left her for someone with more money. When she decides to stop a hanging, Jo has no idea that the man is a blast from the past. Reid is on a mission to find lost Confederate gold. When he determines that Jo may know more about it that she lets on, he is not above spanking the info out of her.

This was a great story. Jo is a feisty, likable heroine with a tragic past living near Savannah, but that past includes Reid, a former Confederate soldier who reappears looking for gold lost during the Civil War. The story was fast-paced, fun, with plenty of sex and spanking. Highly recommended.

Very enjoyable book! I found myself taken away by the storytelling immediately!! First, there’s Jo’s sad, war-torn family’s story, and then we first meet Reid as he’s in the middle of a run-in with a lynch mob!! Definitely kept me riveted, and turning those pages! I gave this one a 4 only because I thought the language at the end seemed out of the time/setting. It was an excellent story, though!!

Josephine is the only survivor of her family. She is able to grow enough food for herself and her animals. She saves an old friend, who she had a crush on as a child, from a lynching from her former fiance. Reid a former Confederate soldier, now working for the federal government, is looking for the Confederate gold that is said to be hidden by her father on the farm. Their relationship is made stronger by looking for the gold, spankings and wonderful sex.

I love historical fiction. I felt so sad and angry for Joe when her no good fiance uses her before breaking their engagement for good. Later when we find our his just wants her for some missing gold and he is a deadbeat that beats women, I am hoping he will get his own just reward. Luckily, Reid sweeps in a her rescuing hero and saves her from this no good family. It was a very sweet story and has some interesting mystery thrown in as well.

I loved this fast paced story of Jo, a woman left all alone in the world and trying to survive. She’s a fighter, but her loneliness is palpable. The author did a magnificent job of keeping this character vulnerable, yet heroic. The agent she saves is a wonderful character, and I thoroughly enjoyed his personality and the way he interacted with Jo. The ties to the past, the mystery of the gold, and the romance and danger of the present made this story exciting and interesting. Once I started reading, I couldn’t stop until the last word.

Good story. I enjoyed it. It was well-written and emotive and the danger and suspense was believable. I loved Jo’s strength, capability and independence and she wasn’t afraid to go for what she wanted. Reid knew a good thing when he saw it. I loved the ending.
