Baylor smiled up at the beautiful, newly engaged couple on stage, the gorgeous stone glittering under the bright lights. “I need to use the restroom.”

“Hurry back, baby. I’m sure Gwen is going to want to show off her new ring.”

As she stood, Baylor had to force herself not to run. It wasn’t that she was upset over her friend’s engagement, just jealous.

She pushed through the heavy door to the bathroom, went to the sink and splashed cool water over her face before looking at her reflection. “What sort of horrible friend am I? I can’t be jealous of their engagement.”

Her hand instantly went to her belly and the scar her beautiful dress was covering. “Who the hell is going to want damaged goods?” A small voice in the back of her head screamed Zander’s name, but she promptly ignored it, choosing to continue her pity party instead.

Baylor pushed away from the sink, then she left the bathroom and headed back to the party but stopped short when the smell of cigarette smoke tickled her nose. Dammit. She had been doing so well at kicking the habit Zander hated so much.

Nibbling her lip, she turned toward the room filled with her co-workers at the Fireman’s Ball. She watched as Zander threw his head back and laughed at something Jensen said, while Autumn scowled at the men.

They won’t even notice. While formulating a plan, Baylor ducked into the coat closet, dug some change out of her coat pocket and then started searching pockets. On her sixth coat, she hit the jackpot.

As soon as she stepped into the crisp night air, she wished she would have had the foresight to grab her coat. With the first inhale of the bitter tasting smoke, her ability to care washed away. The nicotine took effect. Her eyes drifted closed.

The choking cough pulled her from her reprieve. Noob. She shook her head as she joined the man. “I’m on to you.”

As he spun on his heels, he wasn’t quite able to hide his startled expression. “I’m sorry?”

“Come out here to smoke a cigarette that makes you cough every time you take a puff.” She pulled another puff into her lungs, holding it for a second before releasing it into the breeze. “I’m trying to quit too. Z says I’m too pretty for such a nasty habit, but he doesn’t get that it is more than a nicotine addiction. It’s a need, really. Watching the cherry burn the cigarette to nothing. Satisfying.”

“He’s right.” He plucked the offending object from between her lips, tossed it to the pavement and ground it in with the heel of his shoe. “Go back inside before you get yourself in trouble.”

She simply smiled. “You’re probably right. Can’t risk getting caught, not with the promised consequences.” As she turned toward the door, Baylor waved over her shoulder. “See you inside.”

Loved this third book and am waiting impatiently for book four! My guess for the arsonist was right, but OMG, the plot twist at the end. And, I agree with others, Zander can be such an ass!! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A word of warning before reading this book, you really should read books 1 and 2 first as there is a huge cast of characters and an ongoing base plot line. That plot is a little like on onion, with layers upon layers. You peel back (solve) one and lo and behold there is another one hidden beneath. This time Baylor and Zander are the featured relationship but all the other characters continue to contribute to the overall story line. One thing I can say for all of these books is that it almost seems that there is more discipline and graphic sex than there is plot action. However, that does make for a very sexciting read. As mentioned, this is book 3 in the series and some of the mysteries are solved but the Epilogue virtually assures there will be a Book 4 (and hopefully soon). 4 Stars.

Singed Wings is Hill Street Heroes book 3. I recommend reading the series in order but each book is well worth the read. As the hunt for the arsonist continues, the author keeps the readers on the edge of their seats as the suspense continues to grow. Between the danger from the arsonist and the heat from the fire fighters this book sizzles. These dominant men will protect their independent and feisty women at all costs. However. They will not protect them from a well deserved spanking if they break the rules. This book's romance focuses on Zander and Baylor's romance but continues with the other couples in the book as well. There is danger and surprises around every corner never knowing where evil hides, sizzling sex everywhere, deep friendships that can't be broken, and many fun moments intertwined within the story. I highly recommend this book and the entire series. I give the author and this series a big five stars!

From the first page to the last, I was engrossed in the story and fell in love with the characters and their interaction. I will even admit that I felt like I was on an emotional roller-coaster ride. As a series junkie, I am thrilled to know there will be more stories to come. While this did not end in a cliffhanger, it does leave the reader craving more, and yes, there is still an unsolved issue—in fact, the ending had my mouth hanging open in shock.

Each book in this series would be best read in written order because this is an ongoing saga and involves a tight-knit group of people that are bound together in work and play. It is full of angst, anger, fear, and desire to solve a crime, one that leads to a loss in their group. It has not only a sadistic arsonist but issues with copycats that add to the mix. The story is a page-turner, with a large cast of characters, plenty of drama, interaction, and yes, sexual play and spankings.

The latest tale involves the relationship between Zander Doyle and Baylor Bass. It will bring out personal trials that cause self-conscious issues for Baylor from the kidnapping (book 2 Beautiful Burn) and how Zander is helping her face her demons. How these two handle working together, plus their private time, that sometimes includes public play. Zander is strict for her own good, but he is very attentive and loving too.

“I love you, Daddy. How you take care of me, listen to me, love me, even correct me. I love the person I am when I’m with you. I love you, Daddy. My Daddy. I’m not a very good little, in fact, I’m not sure I am a little, but I love how you make me feel—protected, cherished. How you’re always in my corner.”

The story has the good, the bad, and evil. It will still have those in Hill City on their toes, knowing that danger is still around, and they must be vigilant at all times. Have they found their arsonist, or is he just another dead end lead?

The story has several fires, threats brought by the arsonist, and even notes delivered to Baylor at the scene of fires. It will have life and death situations and shocking discoveries. It will also have some exhibition, voyeurism, discipline, and explicit sex scenes. It is a mystery, suspense tale that has more stories to come. While it does not actually leave you on a cliffhanger, the ending was a shocker, and it leaves you craving the next book in this series.

This third book in the Hill Street Heroes series by Rachel Blake was smoking hot in both BDSM action as well as a murder and arson investigation, along with one hell of a twist ending. While the elements of a BDSM lifestyle were clearly, vividly and accurately described, along with the accompanying punishment and sex scenes that resulted, the story never lost sight of the murder arson mystery as the driving aspect. The story definitely took the characters on a wild ride on the emotional roller coaster as they struggled to come to grips with the personal loss as they attempt to move on with their lives. I eagerly await the next book in this series to add to my TBR. This is a voluntary review of an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from Booksprout for Blushing Books.
