Description

Nominated for a Golden Flogger 2017 award.

Cass Harper has given up on her romantic ideal. She has secretly longed for a man who enjoys her company, respects her intellect, thinks she is beautiful, and is prepared to spank her bottom scarlet when he thinks she needs it. All that has gotten her is heartbreak.

When learning of her ex-fiancé’s plans to use her money to take his new love to Paris, Cass has had enough. An invitation from an online fan has her deciding that it is about time to pull her big- girl panties up and step outside her comfort zone. Stunning photos of the Alaskan wilderness promise her an adventure; the prospect of meeting the considerate and strong Killian Nelson, owner of Slick Trench Outfitters, offers her far more.

All Cass needs to do is overcome a few obstacles… such as reclaiming her livelihood from her carbophobic ex-fiancé who has hijacked her food blog, convince herself that Killian’s gorgeous ex-girlfriend isn’t competition, find a missing elderly friend–and, as if that’s not enough, she also needs to stay away from the bears and wolves that call Alaska home.

Only after Cass begins to recognize her own worth is she able to build the life she has dreamed of. Oh, but remember those big-girl panties she’s pulled up? What will her reaction be when she learns that naughty girls find their panties pulled down when going over an Alaskan’s lap?

Roasted is a witty, sexy story of self-discovery. It features excerpts from the fictional CassCooks by Cass Harper and some non-fictional recipes that you are going to want to try.

Although this book will never be one of my favorites I did enjoy reading it. It is a novella so the relationship between Cass and Killian develops at a very accelerated pace, which causes some issues within their relationship that have to be addressed. The author does not shy away from addressing these issues which I enjoyed reading. I would recommend this book because, although short, the author was able to get me to buy into the main and secondary characters and cheer for Cass and Killian and their relationship.

I actually read Roasted about a month ago and am just now writing up the review. I read it because I was offered book two, but with Shannon being a new-to-me author, I didn’t want to agree to read book two without knowing if I enjoyed the author’s writing style. While I actually found the spanking aspects of the novella a little problematic (I’ll address why later), I loved the author’s writing style. I found myself laughing out loud numerous times while reading Roasted and, after spending time in Cass’s world, was happy that this was only the beginning of a series.
    ***
I found Cass very easy to relate to. She’s a curvy gal who enjoys cooking and enjoys blogging about it even more. Unfortunately for Cass, her fiancé was unable to handle the fact that Cass’s cooking blog soon outshined his fitness blog and dumped her for a thinner ex-model. The end of her engagement is made worse by the fact that she & Stephen are business partners and he’s decided to bring his new girl in on the business and take the two of them to France for a wine tasting. So, in a fit of melancholy, anger, and extreme irritation, she books a last minute trip to Alaska to check out huckleberries, thanks to a well-timed message from a blog follower. As Cass embarks on a trip to Alaska while her business relationship implodes, she finds not only herself, but a man who gets her blood boiling the right way – Killian Nelson. Not only does Killian prove to be exactly what Cass needs (including a trip over his knee), but his family, their lodge, and Slick Trench, Alaska may be exactly what Cass has been looking for.
    ***
I absolutely LOVED the humor in Roasted. I found myself laughing loudly and often as I read the novella. There were far more laughs than I would have expected from a book of its length, and they were naturally occurring scenes of humor instead of contrived ones. The chemistry and connection between Cass and Killian was obvious, but the recent blow to her self-esteem Cass received from her ex made it hard for her to accept that Killian could be attracted to her. While I found the spanking scenes hot, I thought they occurred way too soon in the relationship. The first time Killian yanked Cass over his knee, I was “Whoa, dude! Slow down.” There was no permission, no discussion, it was just Killian’s innate instinct to spank being brought to the fore by extremely reckless behavior by Cass. Did she deserve the spanking? Probably. But there was no agreement in place before it happened and it just felt rushed, even taking into consideration that this is a novella. Fortunately, because this is a book, everything worked out in the end (pun intended) and left me ready for book two, Relished, to find out what’s next for Cass and Killian.

I enjoyed this story and fell in love with the various characters. Killian Nelson is a take charge dominant man that turns out to be Cass Harper??s dream man. The plot kept me captivated and the pages turning as this new adventure unfolds with Cass and Killian. I loved her cooking blog and enjoyed reading the recipes at the end of the story. Cass is spunky, self-conscience about her body, but her love of food, her blog, and her dear friends is her priority in life. Losing Stephen was the best weight loss any girl could have! I enjoyed the dialog and found it both entertaining and heartwarming. This is the first book in this series, and I look forward to reading more about Cass and Killian in Alaska. The author did a nice job describing the area, people and wilderness of Slicktrench, Alaska.

This was a cute story. Cassie is a food blogger who has the worst taste in boyfriends! She left her last boyfriend because he wanted to marry her, but only after she lost weight. What an ass! So, he has a new girlfriend and is going to use the money in their account for a trip. She pre-empts him by using the money herself to go to Alaska to see a guy she has only talked to over the computer. Killian is a take charge kind of guy and he takes charge by spanking her when she puts herself in danger. There is a HEA, but everything ends rather quickly. I give this 4 stars.

“I usually am not too impressed with a book that is on the shorter side, but this book is now on the top of my favorites list!! I just loved the “”blog”” style of writing. I found BOTH characters to be full of life, feisty, having flaws like all the rest of us, and being so darn loveable! Hurt and betrayed little Cass meets- protective and ready for his “”MY one”” Killian. A perfect little love story; this had fun and well earned spankings that actually fit in completely with the story. A complete win for me!! “

This was a wonderful book with a quick and funny story line. I love that Cass is able to one-up her horrible no good ex-finance and use her money to take a great trip to Alaska. There she meets the man of her dreams in Killian. After a short bump in the road, the two settle down to wedded bliss. Bonus – a small cookbook at the end of the book with some yummy recipes. I totally recommend reading this book.

So, I picked up this book because I love to try out new writers and this seems to be the only one she has written. Next it sounded interesting so I tried it. The blog posts were unique and the drop it all and go to Alaska because I want to use up the money before her ex used it up was great. Then the little community had so many crazy people and funny things happen, you could not but laugh out loud sometimes. I live in Alaska and thought it was like some of these very small village communities most of us live in. Good first endeavor and I want to see a longer, next book, please.

I loved this book! It was quick, it was funny. It was fun. The characters were unique. It was a quick read without feeling rushed and left me feeling like the story was complete. What’s not to love? Only thing I found a bit of an issue (which may have just been me) was that I lost track of who the side characters were & where they fitted. I would have liked something to re-introduce them when they came back into the story towards the end.

This was a cute story about a cooking blogger that finally finds her true love. Cassie is on the rebound
from a horrible boyfriend. She goes to Alaska out of revenge and meets Killian her true love.
This story was funny, and steamy with many somewhat explicit sexual scenes.
Cassie finds that Killian is just what she needs in the love and spanking department. He takes charge and gives her several well deserved spankings. It ended rather quickly, when I
was hoping for it to go on, but it did have a happy ending and some great recipes.

I wasn??t sure what to expect when I started reading this book. It opens with a blog post, which seemed like an odd way to begin a romance. It piqued my curiosity, though, so I kept reading, and boy am I glad I did. This is the most unique, charming, laugh-out-loud spanking romance I??ve read in a long time. The dialogue, scenery, humor, and characters?? feelings are so well-crafted that before I knew it, I was done reading and sad to leave the world behind. This book reminds me of everything good from the movie Julie & Julia with its recipes and blog post format. Susannah Shannon also uses letters to communicate some of the story, which reminds me of one of my favorite books, Gone Girl, in which the author used journal entries as a writing tool. This kind of creative risk-taking paid off big-time in Roasted.

That??s about where the similarities end, though, between Roasted and Gone Girl. Roasted is a romance story with domestic discipline as a main theme and an HEA. Killian and Cass have the kind of relationship that develops believably and with just the right amount of spanking. Punishment is introduced with respect and plenty of sexiness. The hero is a rugged Alaskan, and the heroine is a sassy writer, and together they are a smoldering bundle of fun. Drop whatever you??re doing and get that one-click finger ready. You won??t want to miss this one.
