Rebekah Boyce is a young woman who lives on a farm outside of Philadelphia when thee revolutionary war came to her doorstep. In peacetime, and in her happy childhood, there were few situations that her cute and carefree demeanor couldn’t get her out of. That all changes when a British patrol shows up to quarter her house, taking her father and brother prisoner. She is subsequently rescued by a detachment of Continental soldiers, led by Captain Wallace Adair. She is taken under the wing of Captain Adair, and has a series of trials and tribulations as she endures the difficult winter of 1777 with the Continental Army, at Valley Forge. Their relationship is at first adversarial as she is merely one of the inconveniences of wartime, but their relationship slowly grows until a bond is forged between them.

Although the main characters are fictional, I have strived to make the scenes at Valley Forge as historically accurate as possible, drawing on the experiences of the hundreds of camp women who were actually at Valley Forge and are little more than historical footnotes, seldom showing up in the stories about that iconic piece of American history.

I had mixed feelings for this book as I read it. I understand and appreciate the author\\\’s desire to make the scene realistic but at times it got in the way of the story. I did not feel the true connection between Rebekah and the Captain for quite a while. I would have liked to read some more of their interactions.

This is a good story but definitly would have been better if there had been more character development and interactions and less scene descriptions. But other than that I really liked the story and would recommend it.

The author did a fantastic job of transporting me to Valley Forge! My feet were cold the whole time I was reading this story due to the empathy the author invoked! Well researched history with the added spice of spankings makes for very good reading. I finished the story wondering do you think it was possible Martha Washington got spanked?

While I liked the story of Rebekah and Wallace and the historical era and setting it just didn\\\’t come together smoothly for me. I really liked the characters and the principals of the story.

Interesting story with lots of scene descriptions that make you feel you are right there in the story. Good characters but wish they had been developed as much as the scenery and it would have made this book just about perfect.

This is an interesting story but with too much scene descriptions at the expense of the development of the relationship of the protagonists.

This story is set during the American Revolution. Rebekah is hanging out with the loyalist even while her brother and father are in jail. Wallace Adair decides she needs to be taken in hand. She almost gets herself and others killed more than once but she learns to appreciate the cause and Wallace as well.

Fantastic display of early revolution life, but I felt at the expense of the story of Rebecca and Wallace. I never felt any reason for the love they supposedly had. Wallace came across adamant about the war but Rebecca came across as flat, empty. It was hard to plod through with so little emotion involved.

A good story about the rocky relationship between Rebekah and Captain Wallace Adair. It took a while for their relationship to feel like something romantic and not just Wallace in charge of her but once their relationship got off the ground it was a good attention keeping story.

The story definitely has a brave heroine. The history part of the story helped make the story authentic. I am glad that the Captain and Rebekah end up together.
