He must have been crazy the day he asked his sister to marry him. Well, step-sister, actually. But dang if she hadn’t been a burr under his saddle since she was just a little thing, and for years he’d been looking to move west, to get away from this god-forsaken, run-down, flea bitten farm, as much as from her pestering, meddlesome ways. Now why would he go and do such a fool-hardy thing as even suggest that she come along!

Kate had only been in love with Johnny all her life. She’d been waiting forever to hear him say the words, like how much he loved her, or needed her. She didn’t really need him to get down on one knee and propose like a fancy dude, but she had to feel like more than an afterthought! It would break her heart if he went west without her, but it would hurt more to marry him, knowing that he cared more about his new horse than his wife.

Then an angry lynch mob forced them together. It wasn’t the best way to begin a life together, but would they be able to put the past behind them and begin anew<

A good amount of this story is spent in background knowledge, building the past so that the present can be explained. A bit anticlimatic when the couple gets stuck halfway to their goal and plan on staying there for a while before moving on.

An interesting study of two young people not related but raised together. Step-brother and sister Johnny practically raised Kathe and they are forced to marry. This story explores their learning to express their feelings and love for each other. Johnny spanks Kate for anything and everything but she loves him and won\\\’t express that love.

A story of step siblings that go from antagonist and target, to protector and captive, to a shotgun wedding, Kate and Johnny have a difficult road ahead of them; in more ways than one as they are headed west to start a new life. In the end the moral of the story is no matter how much you show it, never forget to tell a person that you love them.

I enjoyed this journey with Kate and Johnny. They were real people with real feelings that got lost in their every day lives.

I enjoyed this story. I thought it was a sweet story about young love. I do wish it had been a bit longer or had an epilogue.

Courage Knight has written a wonderful book, and I loved reading about Johnny and Kate. They are step-siblings who become a young couple trying to find their way in the world, and the story is narrated perfectly to capture their youth and uncertainty as they discover passion and the tribulations of traveling west. Indeed, the dang language and dialect is so natural, it makes the characters seem real and draws the reader swiftly into the western setting of the 1800s. This book is on my keeper shelf and will be re-read many times.

This story of young love was well written right up to the end. It could have stood being at least one chapter longer – not to further develop the characters, but to satisfy the reader into believing that Johnny and Kate were going to survive the new challenges with which they were confronted at the end.

This is an enjoyable story. The story about young Johnny and how he takes a young Kate in hand is touching. I love how their relationship develops as the years go by and even though they are forced to marry they find their way to building a relationship they both can count on.

While this was a fairly good spanking romance set in the old westish, it felt like it was lacking a solid ending. There was a lot of build up to Johnny and Kate\\\’s marriage and it\\\’s early stage filled with miscommunication. However when it came to the ending it was rather abrupt and unresolved. Perhaps there will be a short story explaining how they get out of / or survive their current location.

I could tell that Johnny and Kate really cared about each other, they just had a hard time expressing it to one another. This story needed more romance and more communication

I thought this story could have been better if it had been longer and more detailed. I was impressed with the spanking scenes, I thought they were well written and captivating, but the rest of the story was lacking.

This is a good western that turns into a romance story in the end, complete with a lynch mob forcing the two main characters into marriage. These two have their ups and downs and because of that they are plenty of spankings that have to be delivered. Overall a very good book.

Courage Knight always writes such interesting stories! Johnny and Kate were brother and sister when they were younger. Her mom married his father. And Johnny practically raised her himself, teaching her right from wrong. Then, Johnny decided to move to New Mexico, and he was taking Kate with him, whether she wanted to go or not. Because he fell in love with her. The rest of the story is about their journey, with lots of spankings along the way!

Duh ! Oh, how dumb is Johnny. This boy is so dumb he can only do what he\\\’s been trained to do. If he has a new experience, he reverts to the tried and true tactic of might makes right. Kate even had to dumb down her language to exist with this boy. The shame of it is, the story concept is good. The writing is good. The main character irritated me with his stupidity. He never improved until the last minute when he came out with a beautifully expressed expression of love. Ugh! How could I hate him after that?

Very good book about two people who grew up together as step siblings but find that is not how they feel about each other when they are both of age. They end up married but that of course doesn\\\’t solve all their problems because Johnny seems to have to spank his bride more often than not.

Although this was a good story I could only give it a 4 because I like a strong serious hero and I felt Johnny was still a kid who didn\\\’t have it totally together yet. The story was well written but had humor in places that it should have been serious. Also some of the spankings weren\\\’t given with much thought or were given to impress someone else. I enjoy this author\\\’s books but like her serious ones best.

Odd story since Johnny is not a strong hero character. He actually seems to be on the slow side of hick-ville actually. It\’s also a little odd marrying your stepsister as well. This story may not be the shortest but it seemed short to me. Not much drama or meat to it.
