This was a really good book! This book had everything! Romance, mystery, drama and spankings! Some spankings were harsh by men you just didn\’t like, others were by men who were in love and cared for their lady. I will read other books by this author! I gave it 4 stars!

First what I liked about the book. It presents the position that being a feminist, and domestic discipline are not incompatible. Both the main characters were able to reconsider their position on the women\’s rights issue and how to address it without having a drastic change of heart on either part. I also like the Downtown Abbey feel of the story. HEA for our couples, and the bad guy was brought down.
Now for what didn\’t work for me. The relationships were rushed. Particularly the secondary characters switched the object of their affection or interest very quickly and with little reason for the change. The big scheme of the Freedom for Women League was just ridiculous IMO. And the character who I thought needed her ass whipped the worst didn\’t get any repercussions for her behavior.

This was an interesting continuation from the Betrothed book. At a wedding, the groom is given a paddle by the bride’s father, and then after the ceremony, they go to their home, he takes his bride upstairs, paddles her and then beds her while the guest waits for the feast downstairs. After the deeds are performed, he goes out and shows the paddle and sheet with blood to the wedding guest, and then the couple joins their guest for a feast. While very archaic, and more at the creative pen of the author, it still leaves the reader with an interesting story. There were bedding ceremonies where the ladies helped dress the bride in her nightgown and the men the groom, led them to the marriage bed, if a minister were present, a blessing would be said, and they everyone left allowing the couple to consummate their marriage.
Lady Margia is appalled by the standards upheld that a man has all the rights and women are just barely above servants, and the tradition of the bedding ceremony when a couple does marry. She holds illegal rallies trying to gain women’s support and hoping parliament will pass a bill allowing women rights to property and eventually to vote and hold Parliamentary positions. What Lady Margia wasn’t counting on was Sir Cormac Adair and developing feelings for him. The plot kept me enthralled, the pages turning and there were several romances happening, a few horrid and abusive men beating women, plus some properly administered spankings done in a loving and corrective way. I am sure we will see more in this series, and I look forward to reading more by this author.

I found this story enjoyable and interesting. The storyline and characters are well developed and the progression fast enough to maintain interest. There are some messages within the plot. Independent and strong women can willingly submit to the will of a man and maintain their strengths and that there is a vast difference between loving correction and a beating. I look forward to reading further works by this author.
