Charlotte Darrell is ugly, scarred and damaged both inside and out. Her only hope is to buy a Romantek dream vacation and hope that their rejuvenation process can heal her horrid blemish and restore her life back to what it was before her accident. But her virtual reality dream isn't all she expected.

Rex Boyd is a counter cyber-terrorism expert, working for Romantek. The company is aware that someone is trying to break into their operations and terrorize paying customers. Rex hopes to protect one of the most vulnerable, the rich and influential Marie Carthage.

Once in the dream, fighting the terrorist who has gotten access to Romantek's system, Rex finds the situation confounded by Charlotte's presence. Is she a paying customer like Marie, or is she part of the terrorist's network, there to do harm to Marie and start a firestorm of lawsuits that would bankrupt Romantek? And how will he ever reconcile his feelings for her with his suspicions?

Charlotte finds herself in love and in danger. The dream has become a nightmare, and there doesn't seem to be a path toward happiness.

Chapter 1

"Don't get your hopes up. Don't get your hopes up!"

It was impossible. Charlotte was betting a great deal on Romantek's rejuvenation process. If it didn't work, not only would she be broke, her face would still be ruined. She rubbed scar-reducing cream into her left cheek as she readied for bed. It never worked, but it was all she had. She didn't dare look in the mirror. Looking in the mirror was always a painful experience. It never changed, wishes couldn't make it better, and no amount of praise in other parts of her life were enough. She was ugly; the scar on her face made her miserable and distrustful. But there was a cure for it. Finally, there was hope that she'd be normal, look like everyone else, that she could stop feeling defensive when people's eyes touched on that spot just below her left eye -- that puckered, grotesque remnant from the self-driving automobile accident when she was a teenager.

No more would she feel set apart from the beautiful people around her, the people who'd had better fortune than she had.

Bitterness was her constant companion. As she crawled into bed, the grueling experience played through her mind for the thousandth time. The whole thing seemed unfair. She thought of her ailing patients, and realized that many of their situations were equally unfair, but mostly because life was unfair. As a para-nurse, she saw everything.

Not sleeping, Charlotte played the day's events out in her mind. She'd entered an elderly lady's room. The woman was on her tablet, but she looked up as Charlotte came into the hospital room.

"Ugly. Ugly. U-G-L-Y, ugly!"

Charlotte immediately covered the left side of her face with a trembling hand as she gasped out her hurt. But it had been an overreaction. Mrs. Jarvis poked at her tablet screen, unaware of Charlotte's pain. "That bitch, Susan, played a terrible word in my Word Wonder game. I was ahead by twenty points, too!"

Slowing her heartbeat, Charlotte tried to relax, but her voice trembled when she said, "Oh. That's too bad. Maybe you can win the next game."

"I never win. It's not fair."

Charlotte could relate.

There had been things the medical system might have done to minimize the facial scar when she was younger, but they were considered "cosmetic" and consequently would not be funded by the government. Instead of getting help, she was stuck with her horrible flaw, hanging out there for everyone to see, for everyone to judge her on.

But even as she helped Mrs. Jarvis with her lunch, she daydreamed about her upcoming Romantek vacation. Romantek had the answer. The virtual-reality dreaming company had a patent-pending process to rejuvenate their clients. A certain amount of aging could be reversed, old injuries could be wiped away, body flaws could be corrected. Oh, of course, they couldn't regrow limbs or organs; that was the realm of the fantastic and the not-quite-ready science everyone wanted to hope for. Scars, however, could be removed or minimized significantly. Scars like Charlotte's.

She needed to get into Romantek's nanite gel and experience that process. Unfortunately, the only way to do that, since it was an experimental procedure and not approved by all the myriad governmental agencies, was to buy a Romantek virtual reality vacation packagea RAVE. While on Romantek's cruise ship in international waters, Charlotte would be immersed in the miraculous gel and have a dreaming vacation, and a few days later, she'd emerge unscarred and as beautiful as her body could be. Or, at least that was the theory. Romantek guaranteed nothing where their rejuvenation process was concerned. For some people, nothing much happened. They were very clear about that in their brochures. There were disclaimers aplenty, but Charlotte knew, she just knew that she'd be a lucky one and her living nightmare would be over.

Mrs. Jarvis finished her lunch, and Charlotte went back to the nursing station. It hadn't been the first time she'd felt the sting of her misfortune. But hopefully it would be the last. She only had to make it one more day.

In bed that night, excited, frightened, hopeful, she found sleep elusive. For the umpteenth time, Charlotte thanked her Aunt Devona, though she tried not to feel guilty over the reason for her thankfulness.

Her Aunt Devona, might she rest in peace, had been the answer to Charlotte's prayers. Ever since Charlotte's parents had diedkilled in the same self-drive accident that ruined Charlotte's faceAunt Devona had been like a mother to her. A childless widow herself, she took care of Charlotte through thick and thin. She'd been there after the accident, loving her and supporting Charlotte through a time so bleak she hardly remembered anything but the deep, dark emotions she'd felt. Charlotte had buried herself in reading everything she could get her hands on. Romance novels, particularly erotic romance novels, took her out of her misery for a while, and let her escape into a world where there were dashing and dominant heroes and spunky but tender heroines. Charlotte never expected to feel these sweeping emotions herself. Who would love a girl with a big facial scar? It made her want to snap at the people whose eyes gravitated toward her scar instead of her eyes. She was sharp-tongued, wary, and found it impossible to make friends while she was in school.

Auntie had acted as her mother for ten years, but that time had passed. Aunt Devona was dead, and at twenty-five, Charlotte finally had to approach life all on her own. It was daunting, especially with the scar, but Charlotte refused to give up. She tried every remedy she encountered. Romantek was her last hope.

And thanks to Aunt Devona's estate, Charlotte could now fulfill the dreams she'd had for so long.

Being a para-nurse paid modest wages, enough to live on, but not much to save toward the future. Aunt Devona had helped her along when she needed it, but Charlotte hadn't wanted to be a taker. She wanted to make it on her own as much as possible. She knew she needed to stand alone, for she'd never find a person who would accept her as she was. If she made it in the world, it would be by her own efforts. If that pissed some people off, then too bad. Charlotte would go through life with her chin held high and make mincemeat of anyone who tried to tell her no.

Now, thanks to Aunt Devona, she could pay off her apartment and really own it. She could buy a self-drive subscription, making the autos available to her whenever she called for one, instead of waiting long minutes, sometimes hours, to get picked up. And, most important of all the gifts Aunt Devona's estate could give, Charlotte could have that scar removed. There was just barely enough to do the RAVE, but it was worth the expense. Charlotte's future happiness depended on it.

Charlotte had bookmarked an article about Romantek in her tablet, and as soon as her share of Aunt Devona's estate had been given to herthe appropriate inheritance taxes taken by the governmentCharlotte had contacted them. Their sales pitch had fallen on deaf ears. Charlotte already knew what she wanted. She agreed to everything readily, anxious to get started. It didn't matter what dream she chose to experience while in the nanite gel, so Charlotte picked at random and then promptly ignored what she'd chosen. It mattered so little to her. It would be ephemeral, like any dream, so it didn't count for much in her mind. Whatever the details were, she was sure it would be pleasant enough. Romantek would hardly risk alienating customers by giving them bad dreams.

The small print barely even registered with Charlotte. She saw that there could be other real people in her dream, but she didn't care. So what if she saw others? She'd be unscarred! She could make friends without being suspicious that eventually they'd hurt her feelings by staring too long, or asking personal questions that made her relive those terrible days after the accident. And there would be plenty of computer-simulated folks as well, people who would treat Charlotte respectfully and maybe flirt with her a bit. Charlotte couldn't remember ever being flirted with; it would be quite the novel experience. But no matter what, Charlotte was going to do this thing. Even if her dream was hellish, the end would be worth it.

The insertion of the tiny computer chip near her scalp was completely painless, and for the week before her RAVE began, the Romantek computers had been recording all her thoughts, dreams, and experiences carefully, in order to create the script and results Charlotte wanted. She tried to dream about being unscarred, imagining herself flawlessly beautiful as her mother had been. Aunt Devona had told Charlotte many times how much she looked like her mother, and Charlotte, when she covered up the left side of her face, could see the resemblance.

Dreaming about a new life, her eyes got heavy, and she sighed. The RAVE was her magic wand to wave, and Charlotte was more than ready.

* * *

The medicinal film tasted like chocolate, and Charlotte began to feel sleepy within minutes of dissolving it on her tongue. She lay on the bed, imagining how she'd look when she next awoke, imagining how her life would change and how free she'd feel. A friendly para-nurse came by to pat Charlotte's hand just as the drug weighed down her limbs and sedated her mind. Charlotte might have told the nurse not to condescend to her, but she herself was guilty of such small gestures when she was caring for the people on her ward. It was only human to want to aid and comfort.

There would normally have been no sedative given to the RAVE dreamers, but Charlotte was a little afraid of the immersion into the gel. The thought of breathing in liquid made her agitated and sent her blood pressure soaring and her adrenaline response far too high for the process to be safe. Consequently, they'd sedated her. It wasn't unknown to happen, and Charlotte was comfortable with it, even though it made her woozy and things got unfocused and unreal.

The gel felt cool and smelled like springtime in a park as she breathed it in. Charlotte closed her eyes and fell down a long tunnel, so long it seemed endless.

A lurch and a bump made Charlotte open her eyes. It was dark where she was, but a little moonlight streamed in through a round window high in one wall of the little room. The bed she lay in was rocking gently, and it sounded like water was lapping on the window wall. Things smelled like fresh seawater, a little fishy, salty, wet.

She was on a boat then, a boat much smaller than the Romantek cruise ship, that much was clear. Charlotte wracked her brain to remember what dream she'd picked at random, and a small voice in her head whispered, "Dream Pirate." No wonder she was on a boat. She was dreaming about ancient mariners. That could be fun. Charlotte's only experience on a boat was the brief time she'd spent in her luxury cabin on board Romantek's ocean liner right before they took her to the immersion room on the dreaming deck.

The old wood in the ship she was now on creaked and groaned with the motion of the vessel. It was rather pleasant, but she wanted to explore a little more.

Charlotte pushed the covers off herself and sat up toward the side of the bed. She was wearing a long nightdress, like a shift, ethereally white in the moonlight, with a scoop neck that tied in the front. That was all she wore, but at the side of the bed were little slippers, not the kind you wore with your pajamas, but the flat little faux-leather kind you wore to go shopping. Charlotte was not a particularly tall woman, and these wouldn't add to her height at all, more's the pity. But they smelled like real leather. Amazing! She'd seen a leather purse once, but Charlotte had never touched it; leather was rare in the twenty-second century. The smell was unmistakable, however. She slipped on the shoes and felt her way around the dark room, and then it occurred to her: she hadn't touched her face. She hadn't found the evidence of her dreams being fulfilled!

It was scary. What if Romantek didn't make her cure part of the dream? What if she kept her scar through the dreaming part and lost it only afterward? Well, she'd dealt with the ugly mark for ten years, so she could deal with it a few days longer if she had to. Slowly, cautiously, Charlotte raised a hand to her cheek. The deep pucker was still there, and though she'd tried not to get her hopes up, it was a severe disappointment to know that she'd have to deal with the scar for an unknown amount of time. Perhaps it got better and better as each dreaming day passed until, by the end, it was gone.

If that was the case, Charlotte needed to fast-forward this dream.

There was noise outside, on the decks of the ship, and the boat rocked from side to side, making Charlotte have to grab for any nearby object to steady herself. She found the back of a wooden chair and that helped quite a bit. But soon there was shouting and what sounded like metal on metal. A few horrifying screams tore through the night.

With growing alarm, Charlotte gripped the chair and tried to figure out what to do. Should she leave the cabin and find out what was going on? Was she safer waiting for things to calm?

Trying not to panic, she took a step toward the place on the far wall where she perceived a door. It might be a closet, but there was a little light underneath it, so it was probably the portal to the outside. Another step away from the chair and suddenly the door crashed open, bouncing off the wall and back toward the man who stood framed by light.

"Aha! I knew it! A different kind of treasure! Let's grab her and get off the ship before it sinks!"

Pirates! She was faced with pirates, two of them, if the weak lantern light was any help.

Revulsion at their unkempt appearance and sneering faces, as well as fear, jolted Charlotte and she took a large step backward, running into the chair. She snatched it up and menaced the pirates with it, hoping to keep them at bay. Although, if the ship was sinking, her choices were limited. Surely Romantek wouldn't kill her off on the very first hour of her dream! But what was she supposed to do? She swung the chair back and forth, lunging with it a time or two, and sending the pirates back a pace. The scrawny one of the duo, who was farthest into the room, growled at her, while the one with the lantern egged him on.

"Grab her, Tinker, and let's get out of here!"

"The chair! Help me get it."

"Go away!" Charlotte shouted, a scream nearly bubbling up into her mouth like bile. "Leave me alone!"

Tinker slunk to the right while the other one put down the lantern and moved to the left. At the briefest of nods, they both grabbed Charlotte's chair and took it away from her, tossing it onto the deck of the cabin. Tinker's wiry arms surrounded her from behind, and although Charlotte struggled, he was too strong for her to break away from.

The bigger one picked up the lantern again and led the way out of the cabin and down the narrow hall toward the companionway.

Charlotte continued to struggle but could not free herself. Her arms, pulled back behind her from the biceps, were throbbing and, as they manhandled her up the companionway, she was assaulted by the cold sea air. Her chemise was no help at all against that wind, though it was long and long-sleeved. And all around her there was fighting. Some fighters, like the two who'd captured her, wore a hodgepodge of shirts, vests, short pants and socks. A few had tricorne hats on, but most wore scarves around their heads, tied in a grubby knot at one side. All kinds of jewelry flickered in the torchlight, and fighters wielded cutlasses expertly. Men in uniform littered the deck along with their weapons. Steel rang on steel with a deafening clatter in the night.

A hatted man nearly got beheaded by a pirate, and his scream died in his ruined throat. But that was not the only scream that came to Charlotte's ears. All around her, scuffling, grunting with effort, men fought and died or were wounded out of the battle. She tried to tell herself that this was a computer-generated battle. These were not real people. But it was so realistic, it was hard not to be emotionally entangled in the awful scene.

Another ship floated nearby, and a number of the pirates had formed a relay line and were looting barrels and crates, one man to another and then onto the second ship. They worked quickly and efficiently. Charlotte could feel the ship rocking and tilting, and panic flowed through her veins as she realized that the ship was listing, taking on water.

The two who'd captured her fought through the mass of struggling men, to a gangplank joining her ship to the pirate vessel. It looked narrow and such a long way away from the other ship. Charlotte struggled all the harder. She couldn't cross that gangplank! She'd surely fall into the water so far below and drown!

But she was given little choice. Manhandled and half-carried, the pirates dragged her aboard the other ship. The melee had been confined to Charlotte's vessel, and it seemed better organized on the pirate boat, where men moved around as though they'd practiced the dance many times before.

There was a tall man giving orders from near the mainmast. He was armed with two old-fashioned pistols, one in a belt that crossed his chest and one in his right hand. Just seeing his saturnine face, the fire-lightened deep blue of his eyes, and the arch of his thick brows gave Charlotte pause. A dark, well-groomed goatee with pointed beard surrounded his cruel lips. He wore a black tricorne hat with gold braid around the brim over his shoulder-length, dark, wavy hair, a long blue coat with gold braid and silver buttons, black knee breeches, and square-toed shoes with grey stockings gartered at the knee. He looked sinister, dangerous and like the stuff of nightmares. But there was still something about him that appealed to Charlotte, something that made her stare at him. Men of her century were so much less intimidating. This man, this pirate, looked like someone who wouldn't take no for an answer. And, in fact, Charlotte wondered if she could make herself say no to anything he might demand. She was conflicted by her contrary interest in the man and the knowledge that he was a scary figure in what was fast becoming a nightmare.

Men around him deferred to him, shouting their questions and receiving low-voiced commands in return.

When a man ran in Charlotte's direction, the pirate caught a look at her. He waved a hand and her two captors dragged her, kicking and fighting, toward him.

"Cap'n, we caught ourselves a prize. This one's a fighter, she is. Nearly bit me. But we know yer orders about beating women, so we didn't do nothin' but hold 'er tighter."

"Let me go!" Charlotte demanded.

The captain nodded, and Tinker pushed her down to her knees and let her go.

Thrilled to have her arms freed, Charlotte rubbed her bruises while she glared at the pirate who stood way, way up there as she knelt at his feet. She tried to scramble up, but Tinker pushed her back down with a growl.

"DammitOuch!" A pinprick between Charlotte's brows confused her. She tried again to stand. "Damn it" Another pinprick. Finally, she got the idea. Romantek imposed accuracy on the language used in a RAVE. "Scum!" No pinprick. So, she had to speak in their old English. "Unhand me. I will not be your captive!"

"But you are," he said, his lips turning up at the corners as though he was amused. "You are aboard my vessel, surrounded by men loyal to me, and soon, the ship you sailed on will be at the bottom of the sea. You are mine and I will do what I want with you."

Shivers ran down Charlotte's torso, peaking her nipples. The pirate's smile got wider as his eyes traveled to her breasts. He hadn't missed her reaction. He didn't seem like the kind of man who missed much of anything. And his cultured speech set him apart from the others as much as his clean and rich clothing.

Charlotte crossed her arms over her chest, hiding the evidence. "This is outrageous!"

He approached and reached down to tilt her head up higher, gesturing to one of his men to bring a lantern. His gaze lit on her scar but did not linger there, instead locking on her mouth and next, her eyes. The blue of his irises flickered with green glitter in the lantern light. "What is your name?"

"Charlotte."

"Well, Mistress Charlotte, I am Captain Rex Masters, and you are aboard the Stealthy Dog, my ship. This will be your home until you're ransomed. To whom shall I apply?"

"Apply?"

"For the ransom," he said on a chuckle.

"I don'touch!" Charlotte took a deep breath. This old-fashioned language was going to take some getting used to. "I do not know. I am an orphan."

He let her face go and his look hardened. "More's the pity. For you, that is. With no value in coin, we shall have to take our price some other way." He waved a hand at his men. "Take her below." He turned away and shouted orders at his men. Charlotte guessed that they were making ready to sail away from the other ship now that their booty had been taken.

"I am not done with you!" Charlotte shouted at his back. Tinker grabbed her and started to drag her away. "You bastard," she called as she flailed against her captor. "I don't give a damn who you are or what the name is of this crappy boat. Ow!" She rubbed her smarting forehead, but the pinprick left her undaunted. "I demand that you let me go!"

Masters turned and walked back to her. "Feisty. I like that." He gave Charlotte's chin a tap with one forefinger. "To a point. I expect you to mind me while you are here. This is my ship and you live by my rules."

"And if I don't? Ouch!" Charlotte gritted her teeth and tried again. "If I do not?"

He had the gall to laugh. "There will be consequences. I will not be taken to task, or made demands of by a mere slip of a girl."

Enraged by his condescending attitude, Charlotte smacked him on his broad chest. He grabbed her wrist and held it firmly, not exactly hurting her, but definitely showing her the error of her ways. "That is enough from you," he said mildly, his blue eyes sparkling with green speckles. He had remarkable eyes. Charlotte had never seen anything like them before.

Giving herself a mental shake, Charlotte continued her aggression, snatching her wrist free. She had the impression that he chose to let her go. The strength in his hand suggested that he could have held her that way for as long as he liked.

"Bastard."

"No," he said calmly. "But I do not think you meant it literally in any case. You must understand, my dear, that you are my prisoner until I decide what to do with you."

"What does that mean?"

"It means that you will behave."

"Be at your beck and call, you mean? Because I will not. I refuse."

This time he frowned. "Charlotte, this is not a request. You will cease your tantrum or I will see that you realize your predicament most fully."

"Ha! What are you going to do? Make me walk the plank? Is that not what you pirates do?"

His lips smiled, but his eyes did not. "Nothing that permanent. And I am not a pirate. I carry letters of marque. My ship sails under the flag of England."

Charlotte hadn't noticed any flags. She'd assumed. "Fine. Whatever. Ouch! I mean, fine, I understand. But when you make port, I demand to be released. And I demand fair treatment in the meantime."

"Oh," he said, "I shall be fair, so long as you behave."

"I shall not grovel to you, if that is what you mean."

"I have had enough of your disrespect," he said, nearly growling. "Another harsh word out of you and I'll beat you soundly."

Charlotte felt the blood drain from her face. Beat her? "You would not."

"Try me."

Masters' remarkable eyes bored into hers and something impish had her mouth going before her brain. "You are a pompous ass. I will not follow your" Her voice trailed off at the look on his face. "orders."

He nodded once and then locked his hand on her wrist, pulling her across the deck and into a large cabin, where he sat upon a chair behind a map table. Charlotte protested, but within moments, she was yanked over his lap, where she balanced precariously.

"Let me go!"

He did not. Instead, he smacked her behind with the flat of his hand. Even through her shift, it hurt like the dickens. "Ow! Stop that!" She beat on his leg with a fist, but her position was so unstable, all she managed to do was give him a love pat.

Over and over he spanked her bottom until she was shouting and begging, making promises she had no intention of keeping.

"Alright! I shall follow your orders! I am your servant!" More hard spanks; apparently, he didn't believe her. "Really! I promise!"

"No more backtalk, Charlotte. This will be your fate every time you do."

Her bottom was burning, each new slap giving her shudders. Tears were forming, but she refused to cry. He might master her this once, but she would not let him see her break down. "Aye! I understand! Please stop!"

The spanking slowed and finally stopped. "We are done here," he said, helping Charlotte to stand. "You were brave, Charlotte; now be smart as well."

"I hate you," she told him. The only problem was, she sounded like a petulant child rather than a scorched-bottomed woman with a spine.

"If you must," he said with equanimity. "Now go." He stood and opened the door. "Tinker! Take her to the cabin below."

Charlotte rubbed her sore behind. "Great. This sucks. Ouch!" She was getting better at the language, but apparently effort was not enough. Romantek jabbed her every time she made a mistake. They were brief pokes, so small they hardly registered as pain, but they insisted on her good behavior, much as Rex Masters had done. She truly regretted not paying better attention to the type of dream she was to experience. "Dream Pirate" must be a dream for masochists.

Tinker came running, as though Charlotte was going to make a break for it. God only knew where Charlotte was supposed to escape to, out in the middle of the ocean.

Tinker dragged her down a companionway to a door several decks below. He unlocked the portal and unceremoniously shoved her into the dark space. Charlotte sprawled to the floor. The door lock clicked as Tinker left her alone.

Feeling her way around the room, Charlotte found nothing but a bed with a lumpy mattress and a scratchy blanket. She crawled onto the bed and tried to calm down.

Rex Masters was confusing, and her spanked bottom suggested that he was also a threat. But was he real? Could he be a co-dreamer in this nasty adventure? If so, he was playing his part awfully well. If he'd only been kind and gentle, she'd have been able to reason with him instead of yelling like a fishwife. But Charlotte had been scared, upset, confused by her attraction to the barbarian. Although, he wasn't really a barbarian. He spoke well and had shown intelligence. But he spanked. What kind of Romantic Adventure Vacation Experience got you spanked?

Confused and sore, Charlotte snuggled down under the blanket. She didn't know if she could sleep, but she could rest. Suddenly a thought struck her. The Romantek liaison had explained that Charlotte could simply close her eyes for a few minutes and the RAVE would start a new day. No actual sleep was needed and she couldn't get sleepy while dreaming. So, hoping for a better day ahead, Charlotte closed her eyes.

This second edition to the Romantek series is even better than the first. Charlotte signs up for a virtual-reality-dream vacation. While her body rests in nanite gel, her brain goes on vacation and her body heals and rejuvenates. Her biggest hope is that this vacation will heal the scar on her face. From the beginning things are not going quite right but Charlotte doesn't know why. Captain Rex Masters knows why and is trying to keep everyone safe while an angry employee attacks Romantek's programming. Rex is my favorite character. He is a strong, intelligent, caring, dominant man who gives 100% of himself in all that he does. Though I found Marie to be a bit of an airhead, she did provide some comic relief and I liked that Charlotte had a friend to share her adventures with.

I love science fiction! Patricia Green’s second book in her Romantek series, blends science fiction, action and spanking romance, perfectly. While this is the second in the series, you don’t have to read the first to understand the story. Ms. Green does a great job of explaining the premise of the series, making this a possible standalone. (This series kind of reminds me of Total Recall. I loved the premise of immersing in a gel, and having a vacation or adventure embedded into your mind!) What I liked even more about this second book, was the flawed characters. Charlotte is a beautiful woman on the inside and out, strong in character and mind, she is amazing – but she has a physical flaw, a scar on her face, which has scarred more than just her body. She uses an inheritance to take part in a Romantek dream vacation , hoping that the regenerative properties of the gel will heal her scar. The adventure is just an afterthought, so she pays no attention to what trip she is given. But when she finds herself immersed in a world of pirates, fighting, romance, and good old fashioned bottom warming, she finally sees she is in for more than she bargained for. Especially when handsome, Captain Rex takes her onto his boat, and spanks her bottom. I love the romance between these two; the flaws that they both fight; the depth of emotions that they both show. They are wonderful together! There was also a good bit of action and mystery, in the introduction of an antagonist, a terrorist with his sights set on revenge against Romantek. And Charlotte and Rex are in the middle it all. I loved this story! I can’t wait to read book three!

I really enjoyed this book for many different reasons. First of all I loved Charlotte with all the parts of her personality! The way she felt about her scar and how it defined her as a person made my heart break. Then there was Rex! Perfect alpha male; kind and gentlemanly, but not about to take any of Charlotte's sassiness! Great spankings!! And, there was a great plot that kept me turning the pages because I couldn't wait to find out what would happen next!

A Sci-Fi Fantasy story based upon the Romantek Company that provides adventures for their guest aboard a ship. The passengers are placed in a gel and go into a dream mode during the voyage where they live out fantasies. But Romantek also boast of being able to heal some people from scars and imperfections. Charlotte had been in an accident that took the lives of both her parents and had left her with scars on her face. After inheriting from her late Aunt, she decided that she would invest her money in a Romantek adventure and heal the scares. She was vague on what type of adventure and ended up on a Pirate ship. A disgruntled former Romantek Programmer who had been fired was doing his best to sabotage the dream of Marie, a wealthy woman, in hopes of her suing and destroying Romantek. He managed to get into the dreams and alter the situations of her adventure and put the entire company on alert. Captain Rex is actually in counter terrorism working for Romantek. It becomes a battle of who is part of the terrorism, and for Rex, is Charlotte involved. Rex ends up spanking Charlotte multiple times in the story, both unconsensually and consensually. The sex in the story is tame.

I really like the premise of the Romantek stories. It's such a neat way to combine both historical romance and sci-fi. The action part of the story comes from a disgruntled employee who has hacked into the system and is trying to sabotage the program risking the lives of those inside the dream adventure. So the hero, Rex, has to be both a high-tec future security guard and a dashing Pirate captain at the same time. I am not sure why he didn't break character sooner but he seemed determined to be the dashing, sexy, dominant sea captain as long as possible. The spankings are nicely done and the romance between the two leads is great and not a little heartbreaking given Charlotte's low opinion of herself. It will be really interesting to see where Patricia Green chooses to take this exciting and original series next.

This is really a lovely read. I loved that the hero would cuddle her after he spanked her. The heroin was a little annoying but it is to be expected.

Charlotte has a large scar on her face from an accident she was in as a child. Her parents died in the accident and she went to her aunt to live. The scar came to define her. She was bitter and angry about it. When her aunt dies, she leaves her enough money for her to have a dream vacation with Romantek. She only wants to go because the immersion of her body in the gel that sustains her while she is dreaming rejuvenates her body and she is hoping that it will fix her scar. When she arrives in her dream, she finds out that she is in a pirate dream. She meets the captain, Rex Masters. Rex is actually an employee of Romantek who is hoping to foil the plot of a disgruntled employee of ruining a rich woman’s dream. He is attracted to Charlotte and, of course, spankings ensue. Patricia Green always writes a good story and I enjoyed this one. There is an excellent plot and a good ending. There are some pretty intense spankings. Always a plus in a spanking book! But, really, this isn’t a spanking book. It is a romance that just happens to have spanking.

I love the whole idea behind this series the chance to live out your dreams and being careful what you dream for. This time you have Charlotte who feels bad about herself and thinks her problems will be solved with her vacation. Rex sees her and doesn't care. It was interesting to see the story take unexpected twists but the idea behind what causes the problem but it makes me feel a little unnerved. But overall I really enjoyed this next installment.

An entertaining fun read and a sweet romance. Charlotte goes on a Romantek dream vacation hoping to heal her scar but she gets more than she bargained for. She heals inside as she realises Rex can see beyond her scar and love her for who she is. She thought she was unlovable and Rex teaches her different. It is well written and believable as you feel the turmoil and doubts Charlotte goes through and how her negative feelings have been wrecking her life. As well as that there is a fun little story going on full of suspense and danger as a terrorist breaks into their computer system to turn paying customers dreams into nightmares hoping to bring the company down. It ends well.

Another winner for Patricia Green. This is the second books in the series and hopefully many more. Charlotte has severe self image problems stemming from and auto injury that left her scarred. She goes on a Romantek dream adventure that takes a bad turn when a terrorist hijacks the adventure and tries to make it a nightmare. Rex is the strong hero who helps Charlotte with loving discipline. This story has it all, mystery, suspense, action romance and spanking.
