Angelica Dawson’s fiery temper often flared as red as her hair. But finding from her Uncle Thomas that she was totally without options for her home and future, took the wind completely out of her sails. He was bringing a perspective husband to meet her the following day. All she knew about him was that he was wealthy, and that her uncle thought he would be kind to her.

“He might have pointy ears and horns, for all I know,” she told her housekeeper, in tears. She had no idea what to expect. However, the handsome stranger who accompanied her uncle the next afternoon, with censorship in his silver eyes and definite ideas on how a young lady was to behave, was definitely not what she expected. Or wanted.

Geoffrey Wellington came to Philadelphia in the spring of 1850 to meet Angelica because it was his father’s dying wish. Now that he was in charge of Pembroke’s Estate, along with families of a huge staff, he knew his father was right; he needed a wife by his side. When he walked in to find a young lady who was as defiant as she was beautiful, he found himself determined to tame her. But behind those emerald green eyes, a heart of generosity and kindness existed; he could see it. She, however, was every bit as determined not to be tamed, as he was to tame her.

But before she had been married to him a month, she had been shot at, assaulted by highwaymen, and taken to a clinic where the woman in charge was determined to spirit her away into a brothel. Geoffrey found himself in constant worry about her safety. Who was behind this? Constant battles of wills accompany their journey as what begins as a marriage of convenience becomes one of depth and eternal love neither of them expected!

I enjoyed the beginning of this new series and look forward to seeing where the next book takes us. Angelica Dawson has found herself orphaned, and the news from her Uncle is that the estate is in trouble between her late stepfather’s gambling and the death of her beloved mother. She is also informed that her Uncle has a suitable gentleman for her to meet and hopefully marry.

Lord Geoffrey Wellington travels from Strasburg, Virginia to Philadephia, Pennsylvania to meet the young lady that was his father’s dying wish. He is warned that she has a temper that matches her flaming red hair and will need to be tamed. The courtship and marriage are quick, but both feel an attraction. Geoffrey lays out his expectations and consequences for poor or misbehavior.

The plot of the story is full of mystery, suspense, assault by highwaymen, kidnapping, and adventure. Geoffrey is extremely protective of her and does not want to let her out of his sight, or even to walk on her own with all the dangers she has incurred. The staff and townspeople fall in love with the feisty Lady Wellington, but her husband isn’t impressed with some of her antics and takes her in hand.

The story will keep the pages turning with a large cast of characters, and incidences that take place. Geoffrey will have his hands full with his spirited young wife, and he isn’t afraid to correct her misbehavior, and the punishments are detailed. The sex scenes are very mild and more implied than detailed. If I were to have any real complaint with the story, it is the overuse of names and endearments in conversations with are unnecessary and unnatural in normal speech.

angelica's rescuer

Angelica’s rescuer the Strasburg Chronicles book one. By pippa Greathouse
This is a love story about a young woman left along and with little money and a viscount. Angelica is a sweet good hearted girl, loyal to all around her but she lets her temper get her into trouble from time to time. Geoffrey is a viscount who needs a wife and her loyalty and good heart interest him. His father and her uncle were acquaintances. Geoffrey’s father told him she would make a wonderful wife but would need taming. This is such a lovely love story the story line is excellent. There is mystery, danger, twists and turns that keep you reading till the very end. There is a lot of love and of course loving discipline. This story is one of the best I have read in a while. I found it amusing, sad, interesting and intriguing. I am putting Pippa Greathouse as an author I will look for and since this is book one I can hardly wait for the next one. I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and found it to be one of the best books I have read all yr. I enjoyed it immensely
if I could give this book 10 stars I would.

Loved this romantic historical fiction!

I enjoyed this wonderful historical fiction romance. Angelica was in need of someone to take care of her, support her, and protect her. At the same time Geoffrey Wellington was in need of a wife to share his life, help with his estate, and eventually provide an heir. While this started as a marriage of convenience it was not long before it was one built on love and mutual respect. Angelica was loyal and wanted to help others. Even when she married Lord Wellington, she kept her family home and continued to employ her staff, who were more like family. She would miss Maddie and Elizabeth as well as her Uncle Thomas, but her future was now with her husband at Pembroke. Lord Wellington needed to take care of personal business so he sent a coach to pick up Angelica and bring her home. Needless to say this did not go as expected and let the danger begin! When Lady Angelica eventually made it out of danger and home Geoffrey was determined to take care of her and protect her from outside forces as well as herself. He could be romantic with carrying her everywhere and helping bathe her as well as quite stern when she broke the rules and earned a punishment. At the same time, Angelica was loyal, feisty, independent, and yet naturally submissive. Along with these main characters, secondary characters played a large part in the story. Miriam was a young woman who was traveling on the way to a job. Angelica took her under her wing and helped her. However, there was also the evil Elva Grimm. She hurt many women including Angelica and Miriam, while at the same time using Marie, who was terrified of Mrs. Grimm. But, who was Elva Grimm working with or was she working alone?
I truly enjoyed this story and recommend reading this book. The storyline included crime, intrigue, mystery, family, friendships, sex, spankings, love, and romance. There were twists and turns to keep the pages turning and the characters each brought their own special qualities to the story. Once again, I recommend reading this wonderful historical fiction romance! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.

A reader:

Angelica's Rescuer

Angelica is forced in to a marriage, but finds true happiness. I love how the hero and heroine learn to understand, love and help each other. Greathouse is a brilliant author and I can't wait for more books by her.
